Frequently Asked Questions
How can therapy help?
Therapy is more than simply talking about your problems. It’s an active process of exploring what you’re experiencing, developing a better understanding of yourself, and finding new ways to cope with the challenges in your life.
Together, we’ll explore the thoughts, feelings, patterns, and experiences that may be contributing to what you’re struggling with. Sometimes gaining a different perspective can create an important shift. Clients will often have a moment of, “Huh, I hadn’t thought of it that way,” and begin to see new possibilities for moving forward.
Talking also gives you a safe place to acknowledge and process emotions rather than continually avoiding or pushing them aside. My role isn’t simply to listen—I’m actively engaged with you in finding approaches and tools that can help you feel better and move forward.
How do I know whether coaching or therapy is right for me?
There can be some overlap between therapy and coaching, but they have different primary focuses.
Therapy is a mental health service that can help you understand and work through emotional difficulties, mental health concerns, past experiences, relationships, and patterns that may be affecting your life. Therapists are trained mental healthprofessionals who can diagnose and treat mental health conditions when appropriate. While therapy may explore the past, it can also help you develop practical tools and create positive change in the present and future.
Mindset coaching is generally more future-focused and goal-oriented. It can help you identify limiting beliefs and thought patterns, build confidence and self-compassion, manage stress, overcome obstacles, and take meaningful action toward your goals. Coaching focuses on practical strategies and tools that can help you create change in your mindset, habits, and daily life.
You don’t have to have a mental health diagnosis to benefit from coaching. Coaching may be a good fit if you’re generally functioning well but feel stuck, want to make a change, or need support turning your goals into action.
If you’re unsure which is right for you, that’s okay. During our initial consultation, we can talk about what you’re looking for and determine whether therapy or coaching is the better fit. If I believe you would be better served by a different typeof support, I’ll help point you in the right direction.
Do you accept insurance?
For therapy: I am in-network with Aetna through Headway. If you have Aetna insurance, I can provide more information about your coverage and benefits during the intake process. If you have another insurance plan, I would be considered an out-of-network provider. A monthly super bill will be provided, which you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement based on the terms of your specific plan for out of network benefits.
Coaching: Coaching is generally not covered by health insurance and is a private-pay service.
Are sessions available in person or virtually?
Therapy: In-person therapy sessions are available one day per week at my office in Fanwood, NJ, with virtual sessions available on the other days.
Coaching: Coaching sessions are offered virtually.
How do I get started?
Getting started is easy. Use the contact form to let me know what you’re looking for—therapy, coaching, or speaking/workshop opportunities. I’ll get back to you to answer any initial questions and, if we seem like a good fit, we’ll schedule a free 15 minute consultation to talk more about your needs and goals.
For therapy and coaching, the initial consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss what you’re looking for, and determine whether my approach and the service you’re considering are the right fit for you.
If you’re not sure whether therapy or coaching is right for you, that’s okay—we can figure that out together.
What can I expect from the first session?
For therapy, the first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, discuss what brings you to therapy, and begin to understand your needs and goals. We’ll talk about what you’d like to work on and how I may be able to help. It’s also a chance for you to get a sense of my approach and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.
For coaching, the initial consultation focuses on what you’d like to change, your goals, and whether coaching is the right fit for you. We’ll begin identifying what may be getting in your way and discuss how I can support you.
There’s no need to have everything figured out before you come. We’ll start where you are and take it from there.
